SJN 2021 Graduate Brandin Podziemski Drafted by Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors selected Santa Clara guard Brandin Podziemski with the 19th pick of Thursday's NBA Draft.

Brandin Podziemski is a 2021 graduate of St. John's Northwestern Academies.

The 6-foot-5 left-hander, 20, has flown up draft boards in recent weeks because of his ability to knock down shots, rebound and create for others. He averaged 19.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 48.3% from the fieldcfor Santa Clara after transferring from Illinois. Golden State brought in Podziemski for a workout last month.

In Podziemski, the Warriors get an experienced, sharpshooting rookie who can contribute immediately if asked. He finished fifth in the nation in 3-point percentage (43.8) and first in the West Coast Conference in double-doubles (13).

The Warriors’ selection of Podziemski continued what was a busy day for the franchise, who dealt Jordan Poole and Ryan Rollins to the Washington Wizards in exchange for veteran guard Chris Paul earlier in the afternoon.

Golden State does not have a second-round pick, barring a trade.
